Here’s a little bit about me & my practice…
My name is Niamh Shergold, I am a British photographer, based in Devon.
I graduated from Falmouth University.. receiving a Bachelor of Arts First Class Honours degree, specialising in Photography, in July 2024.
I focus on working with photography as a form of visual storytelling.. choosing to commit to long-term passion projects, which are devoted to portraiture and centred around themes of connection.
I believe my work has a documentary meets editorial feel, as I embrace authenticity, as well as my unique creative vision.. to make my best images.
I choose to shoot with medium format film, as I appreciate the slower process and find the results I get from shooting on film greatly satisfying. And I prefer to capture my images outdoors- utilising natural light in my approach.
I try to capture intimacy in all of my portraits- through a quiet & gentle approach, with a sensitive & considered tone. My subjects are always the most highly valued element within my work. My priority is forming connections and always creating a comfortable atmosphere to collaborate in, giving my subjects the space to be vulnerable and therefore capturing honesty & authenticity in every one of my photographs.
My photographic practice allows me to satisfy my curiosity in people & to make sense of the world around me, as it creates opportunities for me to explore human connection, connecting with many interesting & inspiring individuals.. whom I’d otherwise not get the chance to meet.
